Lexy’s Art Room: Inspiring Creativity and Healing in Southern Illinois
Alexis Estes is making an impact in Southern Illinois by bringing people together through art and creativity. Through her business, Lexy’s Art Room, she creates warm, safe spaces where individuals can heal and express themselves. Offering community paint events, live performances, and handmade crafts, Estes is fostering connection and creativity in her community.
In February, Estes celebrated a milestone—a year as a registered business—and completed the Launch That Business Program offered by the Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at SIUC. She also participated in the Carbondale Accelerator Program, where she received $1,200 in funding to support her growth.
Since February 2023, Estes has worked closely with the SBDC to navigate the complexities of running a business successfully and efficiently. Reflecting on her experience, Estes shared, “There was so much that seemed unattainable—finances, marketing, brand awareness, understanding customers. The SBDC has decoded all this information for me. I now have more brand awareness, a better understanding of bookkeeping, and greater confidence as a business owner. This program pushed me to better structure my business overall.”
With the support of the SBDC, Estes has achieved significant milestones, including registering her business, participating in various community events, and reinvesting funds to grow Lexy’s Art Room.
Looking ahead, Estes is determined to expand her reach by placing her artwork and coloring books in stores while continuing to utilize the resources and guidance of the SBDC.
